"The Huey P. Long Bridge is 4.4. miles long including approaches, longest railroad bridge in the world; the finest span across the Mississippi; cost $13,000,000 has two 18 ft auto roadways toll free forms a juncture of two transcontinental highways. Old Spanish Trail from the Atlantic to pacific and Jefferson Highway from the Gulf to Canada. Its central pier rests on sand 170 ft below the water of the river and it extends total of 409 ft high equal to a 36-story office building. The bridge provides a 135 ft vertical clearance and a 790 ft horizontal clearance."
